The solar plexus chakra is associated with the color yellow, and is located just below the breastbone. Just below the heart chakra, this spot affects things like your sense of personal power and ambition, intellect and ego as well as most mental activity and function.
Someone who feels powerful and in control of his life and career probably has a balanced and clear solar plexus chakra. Someone who has a distorted sense of power or feels helpless and out of control likely has a blocked chakra that needs to be cleared with the right chakra stones and healthy habits.
People with health problems in this area may also have a problem with their chakra. The stomach is heavily affected by this chakra, so someone with stomach problems like ulcers will have an unbalanced chakra. The liver, intestines, glands and organs in this area are also affected.
Diabetes is associated with this chakra, as are eating disorders, indigestion, problems with adrenal glands, liver diseases like hepatitis and colon problems. Sight is also heavily affected by the solar plexus chakra.
Yellow gemstones like citrine and golden calcite are the stones to choose to help balance the area. In addition to physical issues, someone who has low self-esteem (and therefore an underdeveloped sense of personal power) can benefit from chakra healing here. A person who is hypersensitive or, on the other extreme, callous, who has a poor self-image or who can’t make decisions and take action may benefit from the use of gemstones and other activities designed to help clear the solar plexus chakra.
Working toward optimal health overall can help this area as well as the other chakras. But given that this particular spot associates with digestion and the internal organs in that area as well as personal power, focusing on those areas can help keep the chakra unblocked and healthy. Fiber is an important part of a healthy digestive system, so high-fiber foods like whole grains and cereals, as well as basic, whole foods like seeds are good choices.
Spices and herbs that promote good digestion like most mints, especially spearmint and peppermint, can be taken in teas or used in cooking. Chamomile is known to help ease a stomach, as is ginger, which are both good choices. Yogurt with active cultures that promote good stomach and intestinal health as well as some cheeses are good choice for promoting balance and health in your solar plexus chakra.
